Power sector competence framework development

This project involved working with the developing team at the National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP) on developing a framework of competence for the sector.  The brief was to get to grips with the concept of a competence framework that worked for the sector, and then begin research into its components.  The vision was to begin the journey to develop a competence framework for the sector that supported skills development, workplace up-skilling and supported the sector is tackling skills challenges of the future.

Project work included visiting the national occupational standards developed by the sector; reviewing the qualifications derived from those national occupational standards; and also taking into account the way that the sector uses authorizations and passports.  In addition to this the sector has extensive training and development of its workforce which needed to be incorporated into the model.

An important tool for the sector that is developing is from www.eusr.co.uk and provides a skills passport and a platform for recording industry competence.  Work on the quick win projects for the team focused on working with the EUSR team on safe entry to sub stations.

This project work required the ability to work with employer groups and to research their requirements.  It also required an in depth understand of and background in the vocational skills sector; the use of national occupational standards and the role of functional and occupational maps in building skills frameworks.
