Developing a Good Practice Guide for Higher Education outreach programmes
The National HE STEM Programme (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) is an initiative funded by the Higher Education Funding Councils for England and Wales. Although focused around Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, it primarily supports the disciplines of Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics. These are STEM subjects that have been deemed strategically important and vulnerable, and were the subject of pilot Project activities initiated by the Higher Education Funding Council for England in 2005 and 2006.
This project involved working with the National HE STEM Programme to evaluate and pull together the findings of project evaluation report that examined outreach activity carried out within physics, engineering, maths and chemistry disciplines. It involved acting as technical author and collating the findings working with the Royal Academy of Engineering; the Institute of Physics; the Royal Society of Chemistry; and a consortium of mathematicians.
This project involved managing the information and producing it into a professional publication that indicated tips for good practice in outreach activity that could be shared across Higher Education Providers.
